This time of the year is rich with familiar activities that can trigger starbursts of memories, which contain happy and sad moments.
Ralph Waldo Emerson said: “You have done what you could—some blunders and absurdities have crept in. Forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.”
Peaceful resolutions
Personally, I don’t think it is possible to forget things that have passed. Some memories are very painful. The emotional trail they leave behind can be debilitating and they have a clever way of haunting us until they find a peaceful home.
Here are some ways that Nonviolent communication can support you to peace with some past experiences.
- Receive critical judgements with a heart of compassion
- Mourn your losses, past hurts and regrets
- Embrace your longings when you connect to the beauty of your needs
- Celebrate all that you love and the richness of your insights
There are many situations that can feel frustrated about and powerless to change. The true power is in how we face these situations.
When we embrace peace in our lives – our soul sings.
Beliefs that no longer serve us can be transformed. When we shine a light on our experiences in the present time we uncover the jewels that we didn’t know existed – in ourselves and in the relationships we have with family, friends, money, health, work and with national and global events too.
New insights can provide a new perspective to current or past situations and can help in creating a brighter vision for the coming year.
Here are a few questions to help you reflect and to take stock of past experiences and the year ahead.
- What have you enjoyed during the past year?
- Can you think of some experiences you have not enjoyed?
- Is there something you want to settle or complete within yourself or between yourself and others?
- What do you need to resolve matters?
- Consider the different aspects of your life – what is it that really matters to you?
- Can you imagine how life might look and feel if you choose to realise your dreams?
- What are some of the actions you plan to take in the year ahead?
I am open to receiving abundance in all aspects of my life this year – what are you open to receiving?
