You reap what you sow. What you focus on becomes your reality. Like attracts like. It’s karma – Do you speak these mantras -do they help or hinder you?
I was with N earlier this week who was deeply upset by something that had happened to her. She asked me these questions: Have I created this situation? Is it my karma? Am I a bad person? This conversation is what prompted me to write this blog today.
The choices we make, the thoughts we have; the genes we inherit, our temperament; our social and economic status and the roles we adopt can impact the way we experience the world and we choose to live, and maybe what we attract into it too! And I believe there is much more to this too!
Instead of offering my opinion about why I thought N’s situations had occurred. I listened to her heartfelt stories of sorrow, loss and grief.
N’s sharing touched me deeply, I felt humbled and grateful for the experience of the present moment- a gift for me to be with her . And as I walked away, quietly contemplating all that had been shared, I started to think about the Golden Fleece!” at first I was a little puzzled by this and then I began to recall some of the pearls shared within this ancient story. It’s a story about a quest, it’s about triumph through challenge. It’s about facing fears.
Do you know the story of the Golden Fleece?
The myth is about Jason and his band of Argonauts who set out to find the Golden Fleece. His quest was to return it to the king and then to claim his right to the throne!
Jason’s journey was difficult, he met many challenges, including skeletons. I remember watching this scene in this old film when I was young, it had such an impact on me.
Now when I imagine these skeletons I view them symbolically representing parts of myself that are difficult to share. Parts that I initially want to fight and keep buried!
N shared some of her skeletons with me.
She shared skeletons with cloaks of shame woven together by the fabric of society. she didn’t fight them, instead we sat in their presence.
I have learned that when we create a circle of trust we help skeletons rise from their burial ground.
And, instead of fighting them, I’ve learnt to befriend them. When fear dissipates the gifts they carry can be received and I don’t feel scared anymore!
N is befriending hers skeletons now. They can’t destroy her.
Preparation for meeting skeletons!
To face some skeletons may take a life time. I believe that the right environment along side Empathic Confidants can help. The non-judgmental presence of another person can support the healing process.
Empathy can strengthen us from the inside, it builds strong foundational structures that are compassionately resilient, giving us the resources we need to face situations where skeletons can show up. Sometimes we need a tsunami of empathy to built what we need to combat their attack.
In the story of the Golden Fleece, Jason was prepared for his quest, and his battles from an early age, by his compassionate mentor Chiron (a centaur). Chiron was a well-known trainer of warriors, also known as the wounded healer. He lived on Mount Pelion a mystical and magical place of wild and tranquil beauty, where the nature is dense.
Mt Pelion – Home of Chiron
Mt Pelion is a perfect place for a holiday retreat. A place to return to ourselves, to our true nature and to find the hidden treasure the pathway to compassionate foundations – our Golden Fleece.
For what we strive why we are alive, to find love and peace the Golden Fleece – Simon Russell
I first visited Mt Pelion myself 30 years ago, I returned 7 years ago and have returned every year since then.
It’s where eagles fly and miracles flow, it’s where the whisperings of your soul can be shared with an ancient forest. A place of natural wonder, where an abundance of healing herbs grow and there is the sweetest honey.
It’s a place to be….
