How do we dance with life when there are tragedies and pain? How do we dance with life when there are storms and rain?
To dance with life means to express and accept ourselves fully with the joys and the suffering in life- moving with our whole being, voice, body and words.
I’ve been leading a Nonviolent Communication and Biodanza week, known as Dancing with Life at the Kalikalos Holistic Education Centre (Alexandros Campus Mt Pelion) for many years. It is a journey into the heart of compassion.
Through the body-based coaching system of Biodanza and Nonviolent communication, we explore how we embody life and express ourselves in the world.
A Journey into embodiment
My own embodiment journey began when I was a child. I was confident in how I moved-running, climbing, jumping, building and dancing. In my teenage years, I took risks and explored the many ways to get out of my body. I also wanted to feel the pleasure of my body and I felt fear. This taught me about instinctive intelligence – the instinct to fight, flight, freeze and flop! I became anxious sometimes and self-conscious during experiences too.
We all have emotional body learning, which gets stored in the subconscious mind. The map of experience extends into the muscles of the body.
Are you listening to the language that your body speaks?
It was at a Tony Robbins workshop in my early 40’s that I began to truly attune to the language that my body was speaking. I walked across hot coals during his training!
All of the experiences I had when I was young, including the mediation moments with my parents, prayer, yoga, watching a master embodiment teacher juggle and demonstrate the magic of Qigong made sense.
Conscious dancing, 5 rhythms, Biodanza, Dance Connection
My sister introduced me too conscious dance events and my raving days passed – free dance took over and gave me the confidence to be more fully me.
Later, after years of dancing 5 rhythms and studying various modes of communication Counselling, Coaching, NLP and NVC, I attended a Biodanza class and embarked on an incredible journey of integrating many modalities that I used personally and professionally.
There is more wisdom in your body than in your deepest philosophies.

We can all flourish and feel hopeful about life and love and relationship
What I love about working with communication through words and movement is that everyone can flourish and feel hopeful about life and love and relationship. You can be a seasoned traveller through the personal development terrain, or a first-timer, however, the foundations of these practices give everyone who attends, a jewel in their lives that they can take with them.
NVC enables us to communicate and relate with radical honesty in ways which honour each other, our values and needs.
Biodanza, Movement and Dance Connection works directly through bio-regulation, to support the nervous system, strengthen resilience, wellbeing and empathic connections between people.
We become more conscious and in choice about how we respond to what is presenting itself, instead of reacting based on past conditioning.
Gently we can embrace more of who we are
Emotions that are blocked can be released through empathic communication, movement and dance and there is a liberation – a sense of newfound freedom that is experienced. Gently we embrace more of who we are during our time together and develop the language of words that are absolutely in sync with what the body tells us.
I am in awe about the way Dance Connection and Nonviolent Communication combine to facilitate the human encounter of people who meet for the first time in an authentic relationship beyond words.

Pelion-Dancing with Life
A Participant’s Poem
Fleeing the English rain
in a powerful metal machine,
I transverse rivers, mountains, seas,
descend into snuggling, swaddling warmth,
gather myself in for a journey.
A journey first fast, splashing, jumping,
then curving, winding, swaying –
stuck rigidly between two seats –
I ascend, ascend this Pelion,
home to Chiron, Wounded Healer.
Homeward I bring this part of me,
to this green, serene mountain;
peach-rose sun, red-gold full moon;
soft winds; waves lapping white stones;
torrential rain; thunder bangs.
Clangs of discomfort, uncertainty;
feeling feebly forwards; toes, hands
in contact with surrounding elements;
body, head, heart-searching out
nourishment, harmony, balance.
Yin yang dancing my inner feelings, needs
How long I’ve needed to arrive here
to this place of guiding, learning;
safe, secure, held in its embrace,
rising and falling with the breath,
with the sleeping, the waking, the being.
